Cisco VPN for Linux
Download CISCO VPN
Because of licensing restrictions, you'll be connected to a secure sever once you click the download link below. You'll be required to enter your OSU Internet username and password to connect to this server. Note: When prompted for a download directory, choose /tmp.
Install CISCO VPN
When the download is finished, use the following instructions to install the software (these instructions assume you downloaded the setup file to the /tmp directory).
- Type cd /tmp to make
/tmp the current working directory.
- Type tar -zxvf vpnclientOSU-linux.tar to
uncompress and extract the directories in the archive file you downloaded.
- Change the current working directory by typing cd
./vpnclient (the install script will not work unless you do this).
- Next type su root to
give yourself the privileges needed to do the install.
- To start the installation, type ./vpn_install.
Respond to the onscreen prompts as they appear; the defaults typically
are fine.
- Enable the VPN service using one of the following methods:
1) type /etc/init.d/vpnclient_init start to
enable the service, or 2) restart your computer.
- Change the permissions on the directory /etc/CiscoSystemsVPNClient as
appropriate.
- To start the VPN client, type /usr/local/bin/vpnclient connect OSUnet. To stop the VPN client, type /usr/local/bin/vpnclient disconnect.
A Cisco VPN User's Guide is available online in PDF format.
