Install X-Win32

As you're downloading the install file, the type of information that appears on your screen varies depending on the browser you're using.

  1. When the download is finished, unzip the setup file.

  2. Close all open windows, and then choose Run in the Start menu.

  3. Click the Browse button in the "Run" dialog box.

  4. Locate the subdirectory where you downloaded the X-Win32 software and click the file xwin329_2.exe. Click Open and then click OK.

  5. When prompted for an "Unzip to Folder," use an empty temporary directory on your hard drive. Important: If you already have a version of X-Win32 installed, do not extract the setup file into the same directory; doing so could damage your existing installation.

  6. Click the Unzip button in the WinZip Self-Extractor window to begin extracting the setup files.

  7. Locate the directory where you unzipped the files. Start the installation by double-clicking x-win92-1054sf.exe.

  8. When the Customer Information window appears, enter your name and for Organization, enter The Ohio State University.

  9. When the Setup Type window appears, most users will select a complete install.

  10. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

  11. When you start X-Win32, you may see a Windows Security Alert. Click to unblock X-Winx32 PC X server.

  12. If you are a new user, you will see a screen titled "X-Win32 License Wizard" when you start X-Win32.

Do NOT click "Node Locked" to license your machine at this time. Historically, Node Locked licenses were used for stand-alone installs on campus and for off campus installs because the Floating license was IP restricted to on campus machines only. The Floating key is no longer IP restricted.

Click "Floating" to install the concurrent network license (all cases). This does not require a license manager to be installed. Copy and paste the long license key into the dialog box. Be careful to NOT COPY beyond the end of the license key, thus introducing blank characters into the key. Click Next and then Finish.

Note: The license numbers are contained in the "XWin32 9.2 Install Notes.txt" file provided with the download.
